The medieval city of Carcassonne( the largest fortified city in Europe) is just 40mins away. Relax on a boat trip on the historic Canal du Midi, experience the local wines from Corbière, Fitou, Minervois or Malpère, or just soak up the “French” atmosphere in the open-air cafés and bistros. The countryside is a walkers' paradise. Botanists will be intrigued by the range of wild orchids and other rare plants as will bird watchers with both resident and migrant birds.

There is so much to see and do - from prehistoric cave paintings to the Space Centre – from horse riding to kayaks and white water rafting. There is no rush here, the quiet roads allow you to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Mingle with the locals at the numerous festivals and fairs marking the rich cultural life of this area. The harvest festivals are celebrated from cherries in May to apples in October. Come and see the unique Limoux carnival every week end from January to April.

An hour to the south are the Pyrenees with wonderful hill walking and ski-ing and also the gateway to tax-free Andorra - an hour to the east are Mediterranean beaches. For rugby fans several Top 14 clubs are accessible, especially Toulouse 50 mins away

Domaine Jean Coste is also ideal for house-hunting and factfinding activities. The french speaking British owner is always on hand for local information and advice.
